When Shooter Jennings was 16, he and
some other musicians recorded with Shooter’s dad, Waylon Jennings. Now,
10 years later, the instrumental tracks have been re-recorded with
Shooter’s new band, and Waylon’s original vocals remain.
That news and Shooter’s new CD
Electric Rodeo are the cover story in July Best In Texas
Music Magazine.
Having a music legend for a father can
be a burden, yet Shooter said Waylon gave him good advice: “Just be
yourself.” Shooter proves to be his own man on stage and in the
article, written by regular Best In Texas contributor Gregory
Barr.
Also profiled in July Best In Texas
is singer-songwriter-producer Radney Foster, who says he went to
Nashville thinking he was going to be Elvis. Now, 25 years later,
Foster says he’s happier than he’s ever been and that wouldn’t have been
the case if he had actually become Elvis. The feature on Foster is a
first contribution to Best In Texas by Austin-based freelancer Rob
Patterson.
The regular feature “Stars on the
Horizon” highlights Jason Eady and Zane Lewis. Eady says a Steve Earle
concert in Europe changed his perspective on American music. Lewis was
a successful magazine publisher who had music in the back of his mind,
thanks to his father’s fiddle playing.
Best In Texas
includes a monthly compilation of the weekly Texas Music Chart™ and “Key
Notes,” a column of artist news from Texas Chart Editor Katie Key.
Best in Texas
Music Magazine is a free publication distributed to retailers, live

weekly Texas Music Chart.
